COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team visited Adams State University on Sunday afternoon where the Mountain Lions downed the Grizzlies 1-0.
In a match that saw a combined 26 shots between both teams, a successful penalty kick in the final minute of the first half by UCCS provided the only score of the match.
The Mountain Lions caught the Grizzles on their heels in the 44th minute which led to an Adams State foul that gave the Mountain Lions a chance to break the tie on a penalty kick.
Mario Mandel took advantage and scored his first goal of the season to give UCCS the 1-0 lead.

Scott Jensen and the UCCS backline kept the grizzlies out of goal as he recorded four saves off of 14 shots faced, and pitched his third shutout on the season.
Six different Mountain Lions recorded shots in the match with five of them placing shots on goal.
Jake Demerath led the team with two shots on goal, as Mendel recorded the game-winner.
For the match, Adams State held the advantage in shots (14-12) and corner kicks (4-3) while UCCS edged out the Grizzlies in shots on goal (7-4).
With the win, UCCS sits in sixth place in the conference standings with 17 conference points and a 6-4-3 overall record, 5-3-2 conference record.
The Mountain lions will be back in action Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. as they host Colorado Christian University.
