Men’s Soccer Draws with CSU-Pueblo 1-1 on the Road

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team visited Colorado State University-Pueblo for a Steel and Silver showdown Friday night, where the match ended in a 1-1 tie after double overtime.

In a match that seemed to have high offensive play after the first five minutes, it would quickly turn into a defensive match as time elapsed.

The ThunderWolves posted the first score in the fourth minute to quickly take a 1-0 lead over the Mountain Lions. Wasting no time, UCCS answered right back in the fifth minute as Parker McClure recorded his first goal of the season to tie the match 1-1.

After scores in the first five minutes of the match, the defensive side of the ball locked down for both teams as they held each other knotted at 1-1.

The Mountain Lions out-shot the ThunderWolves in regulation 16-10, but CSU-Pueblo tried to break the tie in overtime by recording five shots compared to UCCS' two in extra minutes.

Neither Scott Jensen nor Tyler Harvey gave in at goal as they recorded five and six saves respectively, after allowing goals in the opening minutes.

Diego Ferradas recorded four shots and a team leading three shots on goal for the Mountain Lions as Mario Mandel came off the bench to record three shots with one shot on goal.

UCCS edged out the ThunderWolves in shots (18-15), shots on goal (7-6), and corner kicks (6-4).

The Mountain Lions head over to Alamosa on Sunday, Oct. 14 as they take on Adams State at 12 p.m.
