Women's Basketball Earn Home Win Over N.M. Highlands

Shanah Lead scored 13 points in the win against the Cowgirls

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team picked up a 61-52 win at home on Friday night against New Mexico Highlands as Shanah Leaf lead the team with 13 points.

Leaf went 5 of 8 from the field and 3 of 5 from the charity stripe as the Mountain Lions shot 35.8 percent from the field.

UCCS took charge of the game in the late in the first quarter with a 9-0 run to take the lead, which they would never give up. The Mountain Lions used another 9-0 run in the second and a 10-0 run en route to their fourth RMAC win of the season.

Both Tatum Tellin and Kristin Vigil added 10 points for the Mountain Lions.

As a team, UCCS held the Cowgirls to 29.9 percent shooting from the field as Brianna Stewart led all scoreres with 18 points.

The win puts the Mountain Lions at 4-11 overall as they improved to 4-6 in the conference.

UCCS is back in action at home tomorrow evening when they host CSU-Pueblo at 5:30 p.m.
