UCCS Falls in Second Half at Sixth-Ranked Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs and No. 6 Midwestern State played in a 0-0 game for 65 minutes before the Mustangs (2-0) scored two goals in the final 25 minutes in a 2-0 decision against UCCS (0-2) at Stang Park. David Meyer made eight saves on defense while Blake Barnes and Diego Ferradas each recorded two shots on offense.

The Mustangs put up a 9-1 shot advantage in the first half, but the Mountain Lions kept last year's national quarterfinalist off the scoreboard as the teams entered halftime in a 0-0 tie. UCCS controlled the game early in the second half with three shots and a corner kick within a six-minute span, but the Mountain Lions couldn't put a goal into the net during the flurry.

Midwestern State countered with four shots in a three-minute span, including the first goal of the game in the 66th minute. The Mountain Lions made five shot attempts in the final 20 minutes of the game, but the Mustang defense kept UCCS scoreless while the offense added a second goal with two minutes left in regulation.

UCCS will open the 2017 home season Thursday in a 7 p.m., game against Eastern New Mexico.
