COLORADO SPRNGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team continued their strong play at home with a resounding 7-0 win against Black Hills State on Sunday. The game was the conference opener for the Mountain Lions.
The out-matched Yellow Jackets held the game scoreless until UCCS broke through in the final minutes of the first half. The scoring started when
Savannah Boarman netted her first goal of the season in the 43
rd minute before
Anna Gregg scored her first of the year with just nine seconds left in the half.
In the second half, the Mountain Lions poured it on with five goals, including two from both
Chanisse Hendrix and
Kelsey Lanham.
Hanna Parado also got in on the action, scoring the final goal of the game in the 86
th minutes.
Lanham, a freshman, leads UCCS through five games with a total of 7 points (3 goals, 1 assist) as Hendrix is now tied with
Tarah Patterson and
Bailee Jameson as all three have four points (2 goals) thus far.
In goal,
Taylor Proctor earned the shutout as UCCS has won three straight games.
The 7-goal margin of victory is the second largest in program history with the largest being 10 goals against McMurry (Texas) on Sep. 10, 2010.
The Mountain Lions improved to 3-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the RMAC with the positive result and are off until this coming Friday when they host Westminster for a 5 p.m. showdown inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
