Taylor Hamilton hit .486 with 20 kills against No. 21 Regis, but the Rangers extended their win streak in a 3-1 decision tonight at the Regis Fieldhouse. The Rangers (10-1, 2-0 RMAC) claimed the match with 25-19, 25-22, 26-28 and 25-19 sets against the Mountain Lions (4-6, 1-1 RMAC).
Regis used a 5-1 run in the first set to break a 12-12 tie and eventually took the set at 25-19. Â The Rangers held off a late Mountain Lion rally in the second set and took a 2-0 match lead on a 25-22 decision. Hamilton made seven kills off eight attempts in the set.Â
UCCS and Regis battled in the third set with 19 ties through a 19-19 score. The Rangers took a 21-19 lead but the Mountain Lions recorded the 20th tie at 22-22 and force a Regis timeout. UCCS reached set point at 24-23 and held set point again at 25-24 before the Rangers countered with back-to-back points for match point at 26-25. The Mountain Lions made three straight kills, with two from
Alyssa Brinton, to force a fourth set on a 28-26 victory.
Raelynn Edge made 18 assists in the set as UCCS finished with a .386 team hitting percentage and eight kills from Hamilton.
The Rangers took a 10-4 lead in the fourth set and extended it to 20-10. The Mountain Lions cut the Regis lead in half at 23-18, but the Rangers scored two of the final three points off kills to claim the 3-1 match decision on a 25-19 set score.
Hamilton finished with her third 20-kill match in the last four matches and her best hitting percentage since a season-opening .515 against Seattle Pacific. She accounted for 23.5 points with two solo blocks, a block assist and a service ace. Hamilton finished three kills and three points off top-10 performances in program history for each category.
Edge recorded 52 assists in her second 50-assist night this season. She came within seven assists of a top-10 UCCS performance in a four-set match.
Alyssa Brinton made 14 kills with 13 digs, and
Josie Russell and
Taylor Smith rounded out the offensive leaders with 10 kills each.
The Mountain Lions will return home next weekend for matches against Fort Lewis and Adams State. UCCS is 6-1 at home since Oct. 28, 2016.
