UCCS Outshoots #23 St. Edward's in 1-0 Setback in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – Hanna Parado led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with three shots as the Mountain Lions posted a 14-9 shot advantage against No. 23 Saint Edward's, but the Hilltoppers used a single goal early in the second half for the 1-0 decision against UCCS in the season-opener for both teams.

The Mountain Lions controlled the tempo early in the game with three shots on goal and two corner kick opportunities in the first 14 minutes. UCCS held the Hilltoppers, the No. 10 scoring offense in Division II last season, to one shot on goal in the first half in a 0-0 halftime score.

St. Edward's scored its lone goal in the first minute of the second half after a shot hit the crossbar and the rebound bounced in front of a Hilltopper for the score. The Mountain Lions responded with three shots on goal in a six-minute span after the goal, but couldn't put one into the net. UCCS held St. Edward's to zero shot opportunities for a duration of nearly 30 minutes, and a final shot attempt by Tara Patterson in the final two minutes was on target but saved by the Hilltoppers in the season-opening setback.

Parado made her Mountain Lion debut with a team-leading three shots with two on goal. Patterson, Chanisse Henderix and Madison Tominello each added two shots each. Taylor Proctor and Grace Ramsden split time as goalkeeper and combined for three saves.

UCCS will remain in Texas for a Saturday contest at Dallas Baptist. The Patriots are scheduled to open their season tonight against MSU Denver.
