Men's Soccer Rallies Past Central Arkansas in Exhibition Game

The Mountain Lions scored twice in the second half to earn the preseason victory

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing an exhibition game Thursday evening, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team rallied for a 4-3 win over Division I foes Central Arkansas.

The Mountain Lions earned the preseason victory with 42 seconds remaining in regulation when Matt McCullough sent his shot to the back of the net after beating Central Arkansas' goalkeeper who found himself outside the area.

Just 10 minutes earlier, UCCS equalized when Diego Ferradas netted his second goal of the game off of a free kick at the top of the 18-yard box. The freshman's first goal came less than a minute into the game for the Mountain Lions.

Blake Barnes rounded out the scoring for UCCS, converting a penalty kick at the 20:01 mark before the visiting Bears' Daltyn Knutson scored on a penalty kick exactly 35 seconds later.

Central Arkansas maned to tie the game later in the first half with a goal by Blake Stricker at the 30:31 mark before UCCS scored an own goal less than two minutes before halftime.

The Mountain Lions were edged 13 to 9 in shots as Central Arkansas placed seven on goal to UCCS' six shots on goal.

Scott Jenson paced UCCS with three saves in goal, replacing starting goalkeeper David Meyer at the break.

Senior Jake McAllister led the team with four shots, putting two on frame for the Mountain Lions.

The team will now prepare for their season opener when they travel to take on Texas A&M International in a neutral site game on Sep. 1 at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.
