Women's Lacrosse Cruise Past Midland, 17-3

Vanessa Nelson notched a game-high five goals in the winning effort for the Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team remained undefeated through two games with a convincing 17-3 win at home Sunday over Midland (Neb.).

The Mountain Lions were led by Vanessa Nelson's game high five goals as Kelii Kiana added four more in the winning effort.

UCCS held a 5-0 advantage until the visiting Warriors got on the board with 2:30 remaining in the first half before the Mountain Lions added two more goals to head into halftime with a 7-1 lead.

The second half saw UCCS continuing their dominance as they tacked on 10 goals off of just 18 shots.

In all, Nelson picked up six points (5 goals, 1 assist) while winning earning seven draw controls. Kiana, as well as Brianna Martinez and Grace Quinn, had four points for UCCS.

Defensively, Elli O'Brien notched five caused turnovers to go along with five ground balls. In goal, Elle Scott-Williams earned her second win of the season after making four saves. On the season, Scott-Williams holds a .520 saves percentage after facing 31 shots.

The win puts UCCS at 2-0 as they wrap-up their three-game home stand next Saturday when they open their RMAC schedule against Westminster at 12 p.m.
