Women's Lacrosse Downs Saint Mary, 13-5

The Mountain Lions picked up their fourth win of the season on the road in convincing fashion

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Freshman Brianna Martinez scored seven goals as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women' lacrosse team defeated Saint Mary, 13-5, in a non-conference game Friday afternoon.

Martinez's seven goals matches the program record, which was set by Vanessa Nelson in the team's inaugural game.

The Mountain Lions came out strong in their third of their four-game road trip as they blitzed Saint Mary with eight first half goals, three of which were scored by Martinez.

After taking a 9-0 lead early in the second half, the Spires got two goal back before UCCS solidified their lead with another three goals to make it a 12-2 game with less than nine minutes remaining.

Martinez finished the game with her seven goals off of just eight shots to go along with five draw controls and four caused turnovers.

Both Vanessa Nelson and Madison Ellis scored twice for the Mountain Lions as Ellie O'Brien and Taylor Haller added one goal each.

In goal, Elle Scott-Williams was called on to make two saves to pick up her fourth win of the season.

UCCS wraps up their road swing tomorrow morning when they resume RMAC action when they visit Oklahoma Baptist for a game slated for 9:30 a.m. MDT.
