KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-5 decision on the road Thursday evening at Rockhurst in an RMAC contest.
The visiting Mountain Lions scored three straight to draw within one goal half way through the first half after conceding the first four goals to start the game as
Vanessa Nelson scored twice in that scoring burst. However, the home standing Hawks scored six of the next seven goals to take a commanding 10-4 lead into halftime.
After the break, it was more Rockurst as they dominated the final 30 minutes, outscoring UCCS 7-1 to take the win.
Individually, the Mountain Lions were led by both Nelson and
Madison Ellis as they duo each scored two goals in the setback.
Brianna Martinez also picked up two points, scoring once while adding an assist.
Kiana Kelii notched two assists.
Defensively,
Ellie O'Brien tallied three caused turnovers to go along with winning three draw controls.
In goal,
Elle Scott-Williams made a made a season-high 14 saves in the loss after facing 45 shots, also a season high.
UCCS, who slipped to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in conference action, steps out of their RMAC schedule tomorrow afternoon when they face NAIA-opponent Saint Mary (Kan.) for a 2 p.m. MDT contest.
