COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing in their inaugural game, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team edged Adams State at home, 12-9, on Saturday at Mountain Lion Stadium.
UCCS got on the board first when
Vanessa Nelson scored the program's first goal a little more than four minutes into the game as the Mountain Lions shot out to a 4-1 lead. In all, Nelson recorded a game-high seven goals off of just nine shots. The freshman also notched five ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
Five other Mountain Lions each scored once in the winning effort as
Grace Quinn totaled three points after assisting on two goals.
Between the pipes, goalkeeper
Elle Scott-Williams was credited with making nine saves while finishing the game with an even .500 saves percentage after facing a total of 20 shots.
As a team, the Mountain Lions outshot Adams State 22 to 20 as they placed 17 shots on goal. UCCS also caused nine Adams State turnovers as
Ellie O'Brien led the team with two caused turnovers.
UCCS will look to keep their positive momentum going next Saturday when they host Midland (Neb.), an NAIA program, at 1 p.m.
