Mountain Lions Score Season-High 88 in Win Against Rangers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tori Fisher scored 19 points and Brittany Hernandez added 17 as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs scored a season-high in points in an 88-68 victory against Regis tonight in the Gallogly Events Center. Fisher went five-of-nine from the field with a three-pointer and a perfect eight-of-eight at the free throw line to lead the Mountain Lions (17-7, 14-4 RMAC).

UCCS outscored Regis 32-14 in the second quarter to turn a 16-14 deficit into a 46-30 halftime lead. The Mountain Lions shot 67 percent from the field in the quarter and held Regis to 17 percent. Hernandez scored 11 of her points in the first half and made three steals on defense.

The Rangers pulled within 10 points of the Mountain Lions at the end of the third quarter at 68-58. UCCS scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter and held Regis scoreless for the first seven minutes of the quarter for an 81-58 advantage. Fisher made six of her free throws in the second half and led a 92 percent team performance at the line.

Fisher finished with her best scoring performance since 23 points against Fort Lewis on Jan. 7. Hernandez moved into second in UCCS career scoring with 17 points and has 1,469 points. She finished with four rebounds and improved her career total to 676. Hernandez needs two to tie, and three to break, the UCCS career record set by Tara Newton from 1992 through 1994.

Jen Vigil scored 13 points and Anna Schwecke led the bench with 12 points to round out the scoring leaders for the Mountain Lions. Hernandez recorded a season-high five steals and Madi Gaibler led the rebounders with eight.

The win keeps UCCS in a tie for second in the RMAC standings with Colorado Mesa after the Mavericks' 85-56 win at Adams State. The victory also creates separation between UCCS and fourth-place Regis with four games left in the regular season.

The Mountain Lions will finish the regular season home schedule on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m., game against Chadron State. The Eagles (6-15, 6-12 RMAC) fell 74-66 to MSU Denver tonight.
