DENVER – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team continued their historic run on Sunday as they earned their first-ever RMAC tournament championship by defeating CSU-Pueblo, 1-0.
The Mountain Lions, who were making their first appearance in the conference tournament final, used a 41
st minute goal from Tori Maydew as she tapped home a bouncing ball that had beat the Thunderwolves goalkeeper. It was Maydew's third goal of the Campaign.
UCCS (15-4) was dominant throughout as they downed CSU-Pueblo (10-8-1) for the second time in 2017. The Mountain Lions outshot the Thunderwolves22 to 4 and while also leading in corner kicks, 8 to 0.
Individually, Maydew led with a game-high four shots, placing two on goal as Chanisse Hendrix added three shots and two shots on goal.
Taylor Proctor preserved her third straight shutout with three saves as the Mountain Lions made their tournament run without conceding a goal.
With the win, UCCS receives the RMAC's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Division II national championship. The Mountain Lions will need to wait until Monday afternoon when the NCAA will announce the tournament field, including the sites and seedings, during the selection show that airs online at NCAA.com at 4 p.m. MDT.
