DENVER – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team is now in uncharted territory as they have advanced to the championship game of the RMAC Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time in program history after defeating Colorado Mines, 1-0, in the semifinals.
The difference in the game was a header from Savannah Boarman in the 50
th minute that found the back of the net to break a scoreless stalemate. Boarman's goal, which is her third of the season, came of a corner kick from Tarah Patterson.
No. 3-seeded UCCS managed to hold off the nationally-ranked and No. 2-seeded Orediggers who led the game in shots (13 to 7), shots on goal (7 to 3), but held a decided advantage in corner kicks (9 to 3).
Individually, Taylor Proctor notched her third shutout of the year after making seven saves for the Mountain Lions.
Patterson, who now has 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists), led UCCS with three shots as Chanisse Hendrix added two.
The win, which was the second against Colorado Mines this season, gives UCCS a new program-best 14 wins.
The Mountain Lions will look to earn their first-ever RMAC women's soccer tournament title on Sunday when they take on No. 4-seed CSU-Pueblo at 1 p.m. The game will be hosted by Regis.
