Nebraska-Kearney Gets Past Women's Basketball

Lauren Bennett and Shanah Leaf each scored eight points for the Mountain Lions

HAYS, Kan. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team fell to Nebraska-Kearney, 73-54, in a neutral site game at Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions were led by Lauren Bennett and Shanah Leaf who each scored eight points in the setback.

Leaf shot 50 percent from the field, going 4 of 8 while also hauling in eight rebounds for UCCS, six of which were on the defensive boards.

Bennett was also busy on defense as she notched three blocked shots.

UCCS were unable to get going from beyond arc, finishing the game just 1 of 13 from deep. However, the Mountain Lions were a perfect 5 of 5 at the line while shooting 36.9 percent from the field.

The Mountain Lions slipped to 0-4 to start the season as they continue their five-game road swing at Wayne State Sunday, Nov. 26. The two teams met in Colorado Springs on Nov. 13 when the visiting Wildcats edged UCCS 69-61 in overtime.
