LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team added their second trophy of the postseason as they edged Colorado School of Mines, 3-2, to win the South Central Region championship.
The Mountain Lions got on the board quickly when Chanisse Hendrix scored on a header in the 4
th minute off a cross from Tarah Patterson.
Ella Fischer doubled the lead in the 41
st minute off a double assist by
Lo Vyvlecka and Alexandria Samuels.
The Orediggers stormed back early in the second half with goals by Brooke Stroemer in the 46
th minute and Nicole Latourette in the 55
th minute.
With 12 minutes remaining in the game, UCCS benefited on an Orediggers defensive miscue that resulted in an own goal, breaking the stalemate.
The Mountain Lions were outshot in the game 19 to 9, but both teams finished with four shots on goal.
Hendrix led UCCS with four shots and two shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Taylor Proctor earned the win after being credited with two saves.
The win puts the Mountain Lions at 17-4 on the season as they will now face UC San Diego in the quarterfinals this Sunday at 3 p.m. MST.
