FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Maddie Golla led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with 14 points and Kelly O'Flannigan added 11 points as the Mountain Lions dropped a 78-60 exhibition contest tonight at Colorado State. Madi Gaibler led the UCCS defense with seven rebounds.
The Mountain Lions scored 13 straight points during a four-minute stretch late in the first quarter and built a 21-10 lead against the Rams. O'Flannigan went two-of-two from the three-point line and three-of-three from the field for a team-leading eight points as UCCS led 23-15 at the end of the quarter.
UCCS regained a double-digit lead early in the second quarter with a pair of free throws from Abby Feickert before Colorado State put together an 8-0 run. The Mountain Lions maintained a lead until the final three minutes of the quarter when the Rams scored five of the final six points in the half and took a 33-32 halftime lead.
The Rams took its first double-digit lead at 44-34 with 3:36 to play in the third quarter before Gaibler sparked a 9-1 Mountain Lion run that brought the game back within two points at 45-43 with 17 seconds left in the period. Colorado State made a jumper at the end of the quarter for a 47-43 lead at the break and continued the momentum with the first 12 points in the fourth quarter for a 59-43 advantage with 6:43 to play. The Rams maintained at least a 14-point lead the rest of the night in the 78-60 decision.
Golla went four-of-seven at the three-point line and scored eight of her 14 points in the final two minutes. O'Flannigan went four-of-six from the field with a pair of three-pointers and added a one-of-one performance at the free throw line.
UCCS will continue the exhibition season Saturday at the University of Denver. Tip-off at Hamilton Gymnasium is 7 p.m.
