SALT LAKE – In stunning overtime fashion, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team earned a 3-2 road win Friday afternoon against Westminster.
Corey Carabajal was the hero for the Mountain Lions in the added time, scoring his second goal of the game slightly more than two minutes in with a rebounded ball of a save by the Griffins' goalkeeper Max Medley.
The senior put UCCS on the board first in the 8
th minute with a header inside the box off a pass from
Blake Barnes. The two goals are Carabajal's first of the season.
Jake McAllister put the Mountain Lions up by two goals in the 54
th minutes after beating Medley to a lobbed ball from Barnes about 12 yards out. It was his fifth goal of the year.
Westminster managed to equalize with goals coming from Kaden Amano in the 61
st minutes and Hunter Kone in the 68
th minute.
The Mountain Lions outshot Westminster 23 to 17 while also leading in shots on goal 11 to 7.
In goal,
David Meyer picked up the win with five saves as UCCS improved to 3-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the RMAC.
The Mountain Lions return home for a meeting with No. 12 Colorado Mesa on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
