COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two quick goals in the first half propelled the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team to a convincing 4-0 win over Colorado Mesa in the RMAC quarterfinals Tuesday evening.
The No. 3-seed Mountain Lions shot ahead 2-0 when Savannah Boarman and Chanisse Hendrix scored 20 seconds apart from each other in the 14
th minute. The short span is a new program record for quickest two goals scored in a game.
In the second half, Tarah Patterson scored her seventh goal of the season in the 56
th minute before Hendrix netted her second goal of the game in the 83
rd minute.
In all Hendrix tallied five points for UCCS in the win as she also assisted on Patterson's goal.
Taylor Proctor earned her second clean sheet of the season after making eight saves.
As a team, the Mountain Lions outshot Colorado Mesa 19 to 14 in addition to taking six corner kicks while not allowing any by the No. 6-seed Mavericks.
The win puts UCCS at 13-4-0 on the year as they advance to the semifinals this Friday when they take on the No. 2-seed Colorado Mines at Regis. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
In their lone meeting of the regular season, UCCS defeated the Orediggers, 2-1 in overtime, who were then ranked No. 6 in the nation back on Oct. 13.
The Mountain Lions will be making their second trip to the conference tournament semifinals in three years. They last appeared in the semifinals in 2015 where the fell to Fort Lewis.
