COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs put together an 11-0 run early in the game and didn't trail the rest of the night as the Mountain Lions (10-4, 7-1 RMAC) earned an 81-57 victory tonight against Adams State (1-11, 0-9 RMAC). Tonight's win marks the 12th straight home victory for the Mountain Lions.
Chelsea Pearson went four-of-four from beyond the three-point line and led UCCS with a season-high 14 points.
Brittany Hernandez scored seven of her 12 points in the first four minutes of the game and led the Mountain Lions with six rebounds.
Tori Fisher added 10 points in her third straight game with double-digit points.
The Mountain Lions opened a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game and held off Adams State as the Grizzlies cut the advantage down to three points twice in the first quarter. UCCS held Adams State scoreless for the final four minutes of the second quarter to build a 37-24 halftime lead, and led by at least 10 points for the duration of the second half.
The Mountain Lions finished with 53.4 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line. It was the second time this season UCCS shot 50 percent or better in both categories and the first since the conference-opener against Black Hills State. Tonight's 24-point victory margin also matched the largest of the season set against the Yellow Jackets.
UCCS will finish a five-game home stretch on Saturday in a 5:30 p.m., game against Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks (12-2, 7-2 RMAC) earned a 69-59 victory earlier tonight at MSU Denver. Fort Lewis is a half-game behind UCCS in the RMAC standings .
