Fisher Breaks UCCS Single-Game Rebound Record in 13th Straight Home Win

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior forward Tori Fisher set the program single-game record with 23 rebounds to lead the Mountain Lions (11-4, 8-1 RMAC) to a 75-71 victory against Fort Lewis (12-3, 7-3 RMAC) tonight at the Gallogly Events Center. The win extended the team's home winning streak to 13 games, two away from the program record.

Fisher broke the record of 21 rebounds set by teammate Brittany Hernandez on Nov. 22, 2014, against Point Loma. Fisher's mark also tied for ninth in RMAC history, and it is the fifth-best performance in Division II this season.

Fisher also scored a career-high 23 points on offense in her fifth career 20-point game. Hernandez scored 22 points with seven rebounds. Jennah Knafelc with three-of-three from the three-point line for her nine points off the bench.

The Skyhawks made six of eight from the field to open at 14-4 lead against the Mountain Lions halfway through the first quarter. Hernandez scored the last four points of the quarter with a pair of free throws and a jumper to cut the deficit to four points at 21-17 at the end of the period.

UCCS retook the lead with a 9-0 run in the second quarter at 32-30 with 3:29 to play in the period, and Fort Lewis matched the Mountain Lions at 32-32 and again at 36-36 for the halftime score. UCCS shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, led by a four-of-six performance for eight points from true freshman Madi Gaibler.

The Mountain Lions built a nine-point lead midway through the third quarter at 50-41 and led 56-50 after the third quarter. Fort Lewis pulled to within one point of UCCS at 59-58, with all eight Skyhawk points in the quarter to that mark from Alyssa Yocky. The Mountain Lions scored 11 of the next 14 points to retake a nine-point lead at 70-61 with 2:10 to play, and went five-of-six at the free throw line in the final minutes to hold off the Skyhawks in the four-point victory.

The win keeps UCCS in second in the RMAC standings and one game behind Colorado State-Pueblo. The Mountain Lions and ThunderWolves will meet a week from today in Pueblo, Colo., a day after UCCS faces New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M.
