Mountain Lions Look to Extend Home Win Streak on Friday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will go for its 11th straight home win on Friday when the Mountain Lions (9-4, 6-1 RMAC) host Adams State (1-10, 0-8 RMAC) in a conference matchup at 5:30 p.m.

UCCS has won seven of its last eight games against the Grizzlies since 2012. The lone loss in that span was at home in overtime on Feb. 14, 2014. The Mountain Lions are on their second-longest home win streak in program history and tied for the 12th longest active streak in Division II. UCCS last lost at home on Jan. 15, 2016.

The Mountain Lions have shot 46 percent from the field in the last two games and improved their season average to 42.7 percent for second in the RMAC. Tori Fisher is second in the league with 59.4 percent shooting, and is shooting 65 percent in the five home games this season. She scored 20 points against Colorado Mines before the winter break and scored 14 last Friday after the break against Western State.

Brittany Hernandez is third in the conference with 16.1 points per game, and a strong weekend on the scoreboard could move her up the UCCS career scoring records. She is fourth with 1,301 points, and needs 34 points to tie B.J. McNeally for third. Hernandez is already third with 595 career rebounds and needs 66 to tie for second, and needs 10 steals to tie for No. 10 in the record book.

Jen Vigil continues to lead the RMAC with 2.2 steals per game and is sixth in the conference with the same average of three-pointers per game. She made seven steals and four three-pointers against the Grizzlies last year on the road in Alamosa, Colo.

Adams State came within a point of its first conference win of the season last Saturday in a 60-59 game to Chadron State. The Grizzlies have held their last two opponents to less than 25 percent from the three-point line and is fifth in the RMAC with a three-point defense of 29.6 percent. Cydney McHenry is leading the team with 8.5 points per game and is one of four student-athletes averaging more than four rebounds per game.

Charlie Botnick will call the action on the UCCS Athletic Network, and the game can be seen for free through the UCCS Women's Basketball Facebook and Twitter pages.
