PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs and No. 10 Colorado State-Pueblo, will meet in a matchup in the two top teams in the RMAC and Steel & Silver points on the line tonight when the Mountain Lions (12-4, 9-1 RMAC) take on the ThunderWolves (16-0, 10-0 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m., in CSU-Pueblo's Massari Arena.
Tonight will be the only regular season meeting between the two teams, which puts additional emphasis on tonight's result. Â The winner will have the tiebreaker in the postseason tournament seeding if the teams are tied at the end of the regular season, which will also likely put the winner on the short list to host the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament. The winner will also earn all four available points in the all-sport Steel & Silver Trophy. CSU-Pueblo has a 14-6 lead in the standings after the fall results.
CSU-Pueblo has won 13 straight home games since Feb. 20, 2016, and won an RMAC Tournament championship during that stretch. UCCS and CSU-Pueblo are tied for the ninth-longest active home streaks in Division II. The ThunderWolves have won each of their home games this season by double-digit margins, and the closest was an 11-point victory against Black Hills State on Dec. 30.
The Mountain Lions are on a six-game winning streak since Dec. 16 after an 80-70 win last night against New Mexico Highlands. UCCS comes into tonight's game with the top field goal shooting team in the conference at 42.9 percent, three-point shooting team at 36 percent. CSU-Pueblo is the top scoring team in the RMAC at 74 points per game.
Tonight's game will feature two of the top three scorers in the conference. CSU-Pueblo's Tuileisu Anderson is second with 17.3 points per game, and UCCS'
Brittany Hernandez is third with 16.2 per game. Tonight will also include three of the top six rebounders in the league, with CSU-Pueblo's Katie Cunningham (first, 9.5/game) and UCCS' Hernandez (fifth, 7.6/game) and
Tori Fisher (sixth, 7.4/game).
