UCCS Takes Five-Game Winning Streak to New Mexico Friday Night

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will take a five-game winning streak on the road in a Friday night matchup at New Mexico Highlands at the John A. Wilson Complex. The Mountain Lions (11-4, 8-1 RMAC) will face the Cowgirls (2-10, 1-8 RMAC) at 5 p.m.

UCCS will play a road game for the first time in a month when the Mountain Lions faced Regis on Dec. 10. The Mountain Lions had seven of their first nine conference games of the season at home and won all seven home games on the way to second place in the standings.

Tori Fisher is coming off a program-record 23 rebound performance last Saturday against Fort Lewis and earned RMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors. She added a career-high 23 points on offense in the first 20/20 game in program history.

Brittany Hernandez scored 22 points against the Skyhawks and is tied for third in program history with 1,335 points. She needs 129 points to move into a tie for second. Hernandez is also tied for third with 608 rebounds and will need 53 rebounds to tie for second.

Hernandez is third in the RMAC this season in both scoring and three-point percentage, fourth in free throw percentage and blocked shots, and fifth in rebounding. She has scored 20 or more points in four of the last six games and shot 50 percent or better from the field in four of the last five games.

The Mountain Lions have won six of their last seven games against New Mexico Highlands since 2012, with the lone loss in the span coming in Las Vegas, N.M., in February 2014. Four UCCS student-athletes finished with 10-plus points in the last meeting in an 81-75 victory on Jan. 30, 2016, in Colorado Springs, and the team shot 48 percent from the field.

The Cowgirls will look to snap a nine-game losing streak on Friday. Ari Baca is fourth in the conference with 55.3 percent from the field and Kaylani Maiava is sixth with 1.2 blocked shots per game.

Mac Buckley will call the play-by-play action on the UCCS Athletics Network and Charlie Botnick will provide the color analysis. The game can be heard live through the team's Facebook and Twitter accounts.
