COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing their first home game in nearly three weeks, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team fell to Fort Lewis, 6-2, Friday evening.
The Mountain Lions got on the board first just 10 minutes into the game when
Bailee Jameson sent her shot to the back of the net off of a feed from
Sammie Brown, scoring her third goal of the season.
However, the visiting Skyhawks equalized less than two minutes later when Jenna Brown sent a rebounded shot past UCCS goalkeeper
Dorothy Bertoncin.
Fort Lewis then reeled off two more goals to make it a 3-1 lead before
Michaela Mansfield got one back for the Mountain Lions in the 58
th minute, making it a 3-2 led for the Skyhawks. The senior managed to speed past her defender on the right side, sending her shot just inside the left post. Mansfield led the team with six shots, placing two on frame.
Jameson posted a team-high three points (1 goal, 1 assist) as she now has seven points (3 goals, 2 assists) on the year.
Fort Lewis put the game away with three unanswered goals to finish the game of the final half hour, winning their fourth contest of the season.
Berotncin, a freshman, made fives as she takes the loss for the Mountain Lions.
The result puts UCCS at 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. UCCS is back in action on Sunday when they host Adams State at 1 p.m.
