COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior midfielder
JJ Meyer scored with less than four minutes remaining in regulation to lift the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team past No. 21 MSU Denver, 1-0, Wednesday evening.
The Mountain Lions were playing a man down for the final 23 minutes of the second half after
Antonio Roble was sent off with a red card. Despite the man advantage, the visiting Roadrunners were unable to crack the UCCS defense down the stretch.
Meyer, who now has two goals on the season, sent the game-winning shot from 10 yards out on the right side to the upper left corner after finding himself in space.
As a team, UCCS was out-shot 16 to 14, but held the edge with six shots on goal to the Roadrunners' five.
In goal,
David Meyer notched his second straight shutout after making five saves for the Mountain Lions. The senior now has four clean sheets on the season.
The result puts UCCS at 4-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. Up next for the Mountain Lions is a short trip south when they visit CSU-Pueblo this Friday at 7 p.m.
Notes:
- The Mountain Lions are now 1-1-1 against nationally-ranked teams this season.
