SPEARFISH, S.D. – Playing their first road game of the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team held on for a 4-3 win against new RMAC foes, Black Hills State.
The visiting Mountain Lions managed to overcome an early one-goal deficit as they allowed an own goal less than three minutes into the game.
Bailee Jameson evened the score in the 15
th minute after finishing off a pass from
Michaela Mansfield in front of the net.
Ten minutes into the second half, Mansfield gave UCCS the lead as Jameson fed the senior with a lofting pass into the area. The duo now leads the team with six and five points respectively as Mansfield has two goals and two assists and Jameson has two goals and an assist.
Jess Freeze netted the game winner for the Mountain Lions in the 77
th minute after
Ann Odom, a sophomore, added the team's third goal in just ten minutes earlier.
Black Hills made things interesting as they scored twice in the final four minutes of the game.
Freshman goalkeeper
Dorothy Bertoncin made her collegiate debut as she was credited with eight saves to earn the win.
The win lifts UCCs to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the RMAC as they are off until Wednesday when they visit Colorado Mines for a 7 p.m. game.
The Yellow Jackets, who are playing their inaugural season, were making their home debut.
