WITCHITA, Kan. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team fell in overtime to Newman, 2-1, in non-conference action Saturday night.
The Mountain Lions, who were playing their first road game of the season, took the lead in the 28
th minute when
Conor Langenbahn sent a pass into the area from the win, which was found by
Blake Barnes, who sent his shot to the back of the net.
The lead stood for a little more than ten minutes when the Jets equalized with a goal from Carlos Rubio Gracia, making it a 1-1 game going into halftime.
After a scoreless second half, it was Newman's Tommy Fiszel who managed to slot home the game-winner with less than a minute remaining in the first overtime session.
The result puts UCCS at 1-1-1 on the year as they now prepare to face No. 20 Fort Hays on Monday for an afternoon game against the Tigers at 4 p.m.
NOTES:
- With the assist, Langenbahn now has two assists on the season and is tied for first on the team with a total of two points.
- The Mountain Lions placed seven of their 10 shots on frame, forcing Newman's Blake Andrews to make five saves in addition to the defense being credited with one team save.
- Barnes finished the night with a game-high six shots, five of which were on goal.
