CHADRON, Neb. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team opened the game with a 15-4 run and led by double-digit points for the final 25 minutes of the game in a 100-69 win at Chadron State in the Chicoine Center.
Dalton Patten led the scoring effort with 21 points as he moved closer to 1,000 points in his career.
The Mountain Lions made their first three shots of the game and didn't allow a field goal by Chadron State until four minutes into the game. The Eagles used a 10-2 run to close the Mountain Lion lead down to 23-16 before UCCS scored nine of the next 11 points to rebuild a 32-18 lead with 6:46 left in the half. The Mountain Lions closed out the half on a 19-2 run to take a 53-27 halftime lead.
UCCS lead by at least 20 points the entire second half. The starters saw limited time in the second half as the entire squad that traveled saw action tonight. The Mountain Lions still shot 50 percent in the second half.
Blend Avdili used a pair of free throws with 1.5 seconds to play to secure the first 100-point game of the season for the Mountain Lions.
Patten's 21 points came in 23 minutes of action and it was his sixth 20-point game of the season. He improved his career total to 971 points and is No. 10 in program records.
Kendall Godley added 19 points and was six-of-seven from the field and five-of-five at the free throw line.
Alex Welsh scored 14 points with eight rebounds, and
Elijah Ross made a season-high 10 assists.
The Mountain Lions moved into a tie for fourth after Colorado Mesa's loss to Black Hills State tonight. UCCS is one game behind MSU Denver and Colorado Mines for second place in the standings with four games to play.
UCCS will finish the 2016 regular season road schedule on Saturday in a 7 p.m., game at Regis. The Rangers (6-12, 8-16 RMAC) lost 75-55 to MSU Denver earlier tonight.
