COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior forward
Tori Fisher led a balanced Mountain Lion scoring effort with 14 points as the Mountain Lions (9-4, 6-1 RMAC) extended their home winning streak to 11 games in a 67-47 victory against Western State (3-8, 2-5 RMAC).
An 18-0 run that spanned the first and second quarters converted a 15-12 UCCS deficit into a 31-15 lead with 3 minutes, 40 seconds, to play in the first half. The Mountain Lions kept the Mountaineers off of the free throw line in the first half and took a 32-22 lead into halftime.
Western State gradually cut the UCCS lead down to a point at 37-36 with 2:40 to play in the third quarter, and stayed within a point 18 seconds later at 39-38. The Mountain Lions responded with 11 straight points through the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth to take a 50-38 lead, and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the night.
Fisher went five-of-nine from the field and four-of-five at the free throw line for her seventh game of the season with 10 or more points.
Brittany Hernandez added 11 points with three assists and five rebounds, while
Jen Vigil and
Jennah Knafelc each scored 10 points.
Kelly O'Flannigan led the rebounding effort with a career-high six rebounds.
UCCS will remain at home next weekend for Friday and Saturday games against Adams State and Fort Lewis, respectively. Both games will start at 5:30 p.m.
