UCCS Goes for Seventh Straight Home Win Against S.D. Mines

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a 24-point victory last night to open the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will go for its seventh straight home win tonight when the Mountain Lions (4-3, 1-0 RMAC) host South Dakota Mines (2-4, 0-1 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m., at the Gallogly Events Center.

The Mountain Lions opened the RMAC season with its best three-point shooting percentage against a conference opponent in more than three years, led by Jen Vigil's five-of-eight performance from beyond the arc against Black Hills State. She is second in the RMAC with 2.9 three-pointers per game and fifth with 13.9 points per game. Vigil also leads the conference with 2.9 steals per game.

The Hardrockers are holding opponents to 31 percent at the three-point line and have the fourth-best field goal defense at 34.6 percent. UCCS is second in the RMAC with 43 percent from the field and fourth with 35.5 percent at the three-point line.

Krista Showalter is the best point guard in the RMAC on paper with five assists per game and a 5.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. She is ninth in Division II with her ratio with 30 assists against six turnovers. Showalter had no turnovers against MSU Denver last night, and only committed one in the previous three games since Nov. 18. She had nine assists against Montana State-Billings and eight against Southwest Minnesota State.

UCCS is averaging 10.9 steals per game to lead the conference and is third in turnover margin. The Mountain Lions have recorded 12 or more steals in the last three games.

Megan Rohrer was the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week after the first weekend of the season. She is second in the conference with 1.8 blocked shots per game, behind her sister Molly, who is averaging 2.9 blocks per game for CSU-Pueblo.
