UCCS Brings Eight-Game Home Win Streak to Friday's Game with Colorado Christian

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will bring an eight game home-winning streak back to the Gallogly Events Center for a Friday matchup against Colorado Christian. The Mountain Lions (6-4, 3-1 RMAC) will host the Cougars (3-6, 1-3 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m.

The two teams have both played the same four conference teams this season. Both have wins against Black Hills State and losses to Regis while UCCS won its games against Chadron State and South Dakota Mines compared to losses by Colorado Christian.

Brittany Hernandez moved into fourth in UCCS career scoring after a 25-point performance at Regis on Saturday night. It was her third 20-point game of the four-game conference seasons, and she has the best scoring average in the RMAC for conference-only games this season. She is also sixth in rebounding records with 565 and will need three to tie for fifth.

UCCS has the third-best field goal percentage in the RMAC with 42.3 percent. All of the Mountain Lions' losses have come when the team shoots below 40 percent from the field. UCCS is shooting 48 percent from the field and 51 percent at the three-point line at home this season with an average winning margin of 16.5 points per game. Colorado Christian has allowed teams to shoot 40.8 percent from the field.

Jen Vigil is ranked in the top five of the RMAC with 3.6 assists per game, 2.2 steals per game, 2.5 three-pointers per game and a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio. She is among the top guards in Division II in her ratio and three-point shooting.

It will be a homecoming for Colorado Christian Head Coach Corey Laster, who was the UCCS Head Coach for four seasons. Tori Fisher, Vigil and Hernandez were all on the team when Laster was the coach in his last season of 2013-14. He was the head coach at Division III Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., the last two seasons.

Kaitlyn Hinch and Alex Nelson are averaging 12.4 and 12.3 points per game, respectively, to lead the Cougars. Mikala Gordon is second in the RMAC with 8.1 rebounds per game and has started the last seven games after not playing in the first two games of the season. Colorado Christian has the second-best turnover margin in the conference with +0.67 and is third with only 14.7 turnovers per game.

Mac Buckley will call the play-by-play on the UCCS Athletic Network with color analyst Charlie Botnick. The game will be carried live through the team's Facebook and Twitter pages.
