COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team edged Fort Lewis, 1-0, Wednesday evening in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament first round, advancing to the semifinals on Friday.
Junior forward
Jake McAllister scored the lone goal of the game in the 41
st minute after receiving a pass from
Sam Gomez on the right side, sending his shot from 10 yards out to the back of the net. The goal is McAllister's sixth of the season.
The No. 6-seeded Skyhawks pressured No. 3-seed UCCS throughout the contest, evidenced by their 17 total shots. Fort Lewis also held the advantage in corner kicks as they took eight corners to the Mountain Lions' six.
Goalkeeper
David Meyer earned his 12
th win of the season by making four saves in addition to a team save in the second half.
The result improves UCCS to 12-6-1 as they now prepare to face No. 2-seed Regis on Friday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals. The game will be played at top-seed Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction.
NOTES:
- UCCS has defeated Fort Lewis twice this season with the two games being played at UCCS and the scores being 1-0.
- Meyer how has 10 shutouts this season, which is a new program record.
- This is the third time in the last five seasons that the Mountain Lions have advanced to the RMAC semifinals.
