Tori Fisher used perfect shooting today to lead the Mountain Lions to a 61-55 regional victory against Midwestern State (2-1) in the Best Western Premier Pioneer Classic. UCCS is 3-0 to start a year since the 2007-08 season.
Fisher scored 18 points with seven-of-seven shooting from the field, one-of-one shooting at the three-point line and three-of-three shooting at the free throw line. She also added five rebounds.
The game featured eight ties and six lead changes during the first three quarters before UCCS put together an 8-0 run at the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth for a 48-38 lead with nine minutes, seven seconds to play. The Mustangs brought the Mountain Lions within two points three times, the latest at 2:14 to play, but the UCCS defense held Midwestern State scoreless in the final two minutes to earn the six-point victory.
Kristen Vigil scored 15 points to lead the bench and was four-of-six from the field and six-of-eight at the free throw line.
Brittany Hernandez made nine rebounds and four steals to lead the defense.Â
UCCS will look to remain perfect on the season with a 3 p.m., MST, game against Texas Woman's tomorrow. The Pioneers (3-0) take on Newman later today.
