Jen Vigil scored 13 points in the final six minutes of the game to pull the University of Colorado Colorado Springs from a 13-point deficit to a four-point gap in the final two minutes, but it wouldn't be enough as the Mountain Lions (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season in a 70-66 setback at Texas Woman's (4-1) to finish the Best Western Premier Pioneer Classic. Vigil finished with a team-high 17 points while
Tori Fisher added 16.
Vigil made her final five shots of the night as UCCS won the fourth quarter 29-23 against the Pioneers. The Mountain Lions led 15-13 after the first quarter but scored only nine in the second quarter as Texas Woman's held a 30-24 halftime advantage.
The Pioneers expanded the lead by four points to a 47-37 lead after the third quarter and led by as many as 13 points at 57-44 with 5:53 to play. Vigil's three-pointer 17 seconds later sparked an 11-5 run to cut Texas Woman's lead down to 62-58 with 1:53 to play, but the Mountain Lions wouldn't be able to pull closer in the four-point loss.
The Mountain Lions shot 93 percent at the free throw line on 13-of-14 shooting, and 50 percent from the field in the second half with 15 made shots out of 30 taken. Fisher went six-of-nine today and finished the weekend with an 81 percent performance with a 13-of-16 mark. She led the team with eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Vigil made a career-high seven rebounds
Brittany Hernandez scored nine points in the first half.
Chelsea Pearson led the bench with eight points on three-of-three shooting from the field, with a pair of three-pointers.
UCCS will finish the non-conference season next weekend with two games against NAIA opponents Nov. 25-26 at the Colorado State-Pueblo Thanksgiving Classic. The Mountain Lions play Wayland Baptist on Friday at 3 p.m., and follows with Morningside on Saturday at 5 p.m.
