COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will take a 2-0 record against a pair of undefeated appoints in Midwestern State (2-0) and Texas Woman's (3-0) for the Best Western Premier Pioneer Classic in Denton, Texas. The Mountain Lions will take on Midwestern State at 1 p.m., MST, on Saturday, and the host Texas Woman's at 3 p.m., MST, on Sunday.
The Mountain Lions haven't put together a 3-0 or 4-0 start since the 2007-08 team started the season 4-0. UCCS is one of four RMAC teams, along with Colorado State-Pueblo, Fort Lewis and Regis, to remain undefeated at this point of the season.
UCCS leads the RMAC in nearly every offensive statistical category with the top scoring offense in the RMAC this season with 78 points per game, the top winning margin at 15.5 points per game, the best field goal percentage at 50.8 percent, the best three-point percentage at 45.7 percent, the most assists (18.0/game) and most three-pointers made (10.5/game). The Mountain Lions also lead the league with 5.5 blocked shots per game and are second with 10.5 steals per game.
Anna Schwecke is leading the conference with 80 percent from the field on 12-of-15 shooting, one spot ahead of teammate Jen Vigil's 75 percent clip on 12-of-16 shooting. Vigil also leads the conference with 3.5 steals per game.
Midwestern State started its season with home victories against Adams State and Texas A&M-International, and won by an average of 20 points in the two games. The Mustangs have seven student-athletes averaging at least seven points this season, led by Kristin Rydell's 11 points per game.
Texas Woman's is 3-0 after an NCAA Division II Tournament berth last season. The Pioneers participated in the same tournament last week at Midwestern State with wins against Adams State and Texas A&M-International, and picked up their third win on Tuesday night against Arkansas-Fort Smith. Kenesha Saygo didn't play in the first two games but sored 25 points and shot 64 percent against Fort Smith on Tuesday. Alexis Nezianya is scoring 10.7 points per game off the bench as the two are the top scorers for Texas Woman's this season.
