RAPID CITY, S.D. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team extended their winning streak to five games with a 2-0 victory at South Dakota Mines on Sunday afternoon.
The Mountain Lions took the lead for good in the 27
th minute when
Jake McAllister scored his fourth goal of the season off of an assist from
Nik Newcamp. McAllister leads UCCS as he now has 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists) on the year.
Alex Vonholle solidified the Mountain Lions' advantage with the game's second goal in 52
nd minute of action, giving the freshman his third of the campaign.
In goal,
David Meyer notched his seventh win and sixth shutout after making four stops for UCCS.
As a team, the Mountain Lions produced 11 shots, putting four on frame as they held the Hardrockers to just six total shots in the game.
The win puts UCCS at 7-4-1 overall and 6-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as they prepare to take on nationally-ranked Regis for the second time this season on Friday, Oct. 14 at home. The game is slated for 5 p.m. In their last meeting this past Friday, the Mountain Lions edged Regis in Denver, 4-3.
