UCCS Shocks No. 5 Regis, 4-3

Jake McAllister scored twice in the first half to help send UCCS past the nationally-ranked Rangers

DENVER – In perhaps the program's biggest win, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team shocked No.5 Regis this afternoon on the road, 4-3, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Mountain Lions, who are now winners of their last four, led 3-2 at halftime before the Rangers equalized in the 78th minute with a goal from Eduardo Belmar. However, freshman Tankred Steinbach scored the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining in regulation to break the stalemate, sending his shot to the far post after beating the goalkeeper on the near side.

Jake McAllister put UCCS up 2-1 with goals in the 18th and 29th minutes after Regis' Jacob Lever opened the scoring just six minutes in the game.

After Tom Grimley scored his sixth goal of the season for Regis in the 33rd minute, Alex Vonholle found the back of the net for the second time this season a minute later to tie the game at three.

Both teams played evenly as they each took 16 shots in the game with the Mountain Lions holding a slight 9 to 7 advantage in shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper David Meyer notched four saves to pick up his sixth win of the season.

UCCS, who improved to 6-4-1 overall and 5-2 in the RMAC, will look to keep their steak alive on Sunday when they travel north to take on South Dakota Mines at 1 p.m.

NOTES:
- The Mountain Lions improved to 2-1-1 against nationally-ranked teams. They also edged then-No. 21 MSU Denver, 1-0, at home on Sep. 28.

- The loss marked the first setback of the season for Regis, who entered the game unbeaten through nine games.
