UCCS Downs South Dakota Mines, 2-0

Alex Vonholle paced UCCS with a goal and an assist in the win over the Hardrockers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team earned their eighth shutout of the season with a 2-0 win at home Sunday against South Dakota Mines.

The Mountain Lions shot out to a quick lead when then JJ Meyer netted his third goal of the season in the 3rd minute on a give-and-go play with Alex Vonholle on the right side, slotting his shot to the left side.

Vonholle put the game away in the 67th minute, scoring his fourth goal of the campaign for the Mountain Lions.

Jake McAllister led the team with four shots and two shots on goal as Vonholle had three shots.

UCCS, who defeated the Hardrockers by the same score on the road earlier in the season, dominated play as they outshot their opponents 16 to 6 while taking a total of nine corner kicks to the Hardrockers' two.

Goalkeeper David Meyer picked up the win after making two saves.

The result improves UCCS to 8-5-1 overall and 7-3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Mountain Lions hit the road this coming weekend as they take on Westminster for the second time this season on Friday at 3 p.m.
