The Mustangs scored on their first four possessions to take a 9-3 lead against the Mountain Lions, but UCCS responded with a 13-2 run to build a 16-11 lead with 13:46 left in the first half. Western New Mexico used strong three-point shooting to keep the game close and the Mountain Lions used a small rally at the end of the half to lead 41-32.
A 14-2 Mountain Lion midway through the second half turned a 67-58 lead into a 21-point advantage at 81-62 with 8:07 to play. UCCS kept a lead of at least 19 points for the rest of the game with the starters out for the final five minutes in the 95-73 win against the Mustangs.
