Balanced Attack Leads Mountain Lions to 74-69 Win Against Christian

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs used a balanced offensive attack and Tori fisher pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds as the Mountain Lions (11-6, 7-4 RMAC) defeated Colorado Christian (11-4, 8-3 RMAC) in a 74-69 victory tonight in the Gallogly Events Center. The win for UCCS snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Cougars.

Gabby Ramirez made a fastbreak layup as the buzzer sounded at the end of the first quarter and it was part of an eight-point run by the Mountain Lions that put them ahead 23-17 with 7:11 left in the second quarter. Jen Vigil made back-to-back three pointers later in the quarter to push UCCS to a 35-23 lead with 3 minutes to play. The Cougars pulled back to within single digits as the Mountain Lions lead 38-30 at halftime.

UCCS shot 50 percent from the three-point line in the first half with six 3-pointers, led by a three-of-four performance by Vigil. Shanah Leaf scored eight points by halftime and Ramirez had seven points and four steals by intermission.

Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter and the Cougars took their first lead since in the first quarter with a six-point rally for a 56-55 lead with 6:38 to play. The Mountain Lions responded with seven straight points to regain a 64-58 advantage and led the rest of the game. Colorado Christian pulled to within two points of UCCS with 43 seconds to play, but did not foul to stop the clock and Brittany Hernandez made a three-pointer to with 16 seconds left to secure the 74-69 win for the Mountain Lions.

Hernandez scored nine points in the second half and led UCCS with 13 points. Vigil and Leaf both scored 12 and Ramirez led the bench with 11 points and made five steals on defense. Tori Fisher made a season-high 10 rebounds with eight on the offensive end and scored eight points.

The Mountain Lions are in a three-way tie for fifth in the conference standings at the halfway point with tonight's games. UCCS will be on the road to South Dakota with a Friday game at South Dakota Mines and a Saturday game at Black Hills State. The Mountain Lions have won their last three conference road games.
