Kim Catlett improved two spots in UCCS career kill records as the Mountain Lions split the first day of the Hilton Garden Inn Classic hosted by Texas Woman's. UCCS dropped the opening match 3-1 to Cameron and then rebounded in the afternoon with a 3-1 victory against Texas A&M International.
The Mountain Lions fell to Cameron in 23-25, 20-25, 25-22 and 21-25 set scores this morning. Catlett improved to eighth in the record charts with 17 kills against the Aggies. She made seven of her kills in the third set with a .308 hitting percentage to lead the Mountain Lion offense in the set victory. She added 19 digs on defense for the match.
Taylor Hamilton made a career-high 15 kills in the opening match and
Cassidy Bush added another 10 kills and a pair of service aces.
Morgan Evans made a career-high 25 digs in addition to a match-high 45 assists.
Catlett continued her climb up the record books in the afternoon match with the Dust Devils. She finished with 28 kills, the most for a Mountain Lion since 2001 and good for third in program records in a four-set match. Catlett also pushed her career total to 922 for seventh in the charts and is 52 kills away for a tie for sixth in program records. She also made another 17 digs on defense and is 51 away from fourth in program career records.
Hamilton added 13 kills and true freshman
Lauren Brown recorded four blocks in her second collegiate match. Evans made 51 assists for her second-best performance in a four-set match for her career. UCCS won the match in 25-21, 25-14, 18-25 and 25-21 set scores.
The Mountain Lions will continue the Hilton Garden Inn Classic on Saturday with Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. Commerce won its first match of the day in five sets with Harding and plays Arkansas-Monticello tonight. Texas Woman's swept Monticellor today and plays Harding tonight.
