Egeler Scores Game-Winner in Final Minute at MSU Denver

DENVER – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs had shots bounce off the crossbar and post, but a shot with Zach Egeler with 47 seconds left in the second overtime would be the lone goal of the game as the Mountain Lions (5-3, 3-1 RMAC) defeated MSU Denver (5-3-1, 3-2 RMAC) in a 1-0 victory at the Regency Athletic Complex. David Meyer earned his second shutout of the season with nine saves.

The shots that hit the bar and post both came in the second half as UCCS held a 17-9 overall shot advantage in the period, but the Roadrunners held a 5-4 shot-on-goal lead. Meyer made four of the saves while the defense was credited with one save early in the half.

The Roadrunners put one shot on frame early in the first overtime period, and two more in the second overtime period with no attempts on target by the Mountain Lions until the final minute. Antonio Roble passed the ball into the box from the right sideline, and the Roadrunner keeper knocked it out but didn't control it, which allowed Egeler to score the goal in the 110th minute. The goal was his first of his Mountain Lion career and marked the second straight win against MSU Denver in the series.

UCCS moved into a three-way tie for second in the RMAC standings with nine points and is tied with MSU Denver and Fort Lewis. The Mountain Lions have won three of their last four games since Sept. 20 and today's game was the first to go into overtime periods this season.

UCCS will be off on Friday before a home game on Sunday at noon against CSU-Pueblo. The ThunderWolves (5-3, 1-1 RMAC) will play MSU Denver in Pueblo on Friday night.
