PUEBLO, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore forward
Bailee Jameson scored two goals, including the game-winner with 14 seconds to play, as the Mountain Lions (6-2-1, 3-1-1 RMAC) earned a 2-1 win against CSU-Pueblo (4-3, 2-2 RMAC) today at Gonzales Stadium. The Mountain Lions moved into a tie for first in the RMAC standings after a tie by Colorado Mines against MSU Denver today.
Jameson scored the first goal of the game on a pass from
Lo Vyvlecka in the 27th minute with a shot into the top right corner. It was one of four Mountain Lions in the first half as the ThunderWolves held a 13-4 advantage, but the goal would be the only one for either team at halftime as UCCS led 1-0.
CSU-Pueblo scored the equalizer with just more than 15 to play in regulation during a stretch when both teams were substituting players due to hot field conditions. The Mountain Lions started a strong offensive push after the goal and allowed no ThunderWolf shots after the goal, and Jameson scored the game-winner in the 90th minute off of a rebound from the goalkeeper. It was her first game-winner of the season and the second of her career.
Today's win equaled the number of wins from last season with nine games left in the regular season. UCCS is tied for first in the RMAC with Colorado Mines with 10 points, and the two are one point ahead of Fort Lewis. The Mountain Lions have six games left in the conference schedule.
Jameson doubled her career scoring total today with both of her shots on goal resulting as goals.
Michaela Mansfield and
Megan Avery both added two shots with one goal today.
Brandi Arsenault made eight saves on defense.
The game marked the start of the 2015-16 Steel & Silver Series between UCCS and CSU-Pueblo, the all-sport competition between the two institutions. The win provides a 4-0 lead for the Mountain Lions.
UCCS will remain on the road for a weekend to southwest Colorado against Adams State on Friday and Fort Lewis on Sunday.
