Mountain Lions Claim 3-1 Road Win at Fort Lewis

DURANGO, Colo. – Kim Catlett hit 24 kills in the fourth-best performance for a four-set match in program history as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team earned a 3-1 road victory at Fort Lewis tonight in Whalen Gymnasium. The Mountain Lions (8-5, 3-1 RMAC) have won four of their las five matches and are tied for fourth in the RMAC standings.

UCCS hit .271 as a team for the best hitting performance since Sept. 4 against Texas A&M International, and made 55 assists for the best four-set performance this season. The Mountain Lions also held their opponent to below .200 in hitting for the third straight match.

A 7-2 run midway through the first set turned a 14-11 UCCS deficit into an 18-16 lead, with Taylor Hamilton recording two kills and a block assist during the run. The run would mark the last of five lead changes in the set as the Mountain Lions won the first set 25-22 with a .417 hitting percentage. Fort Lewis scored the first six points of the second set, and while UCCS cut the lead down to two points, the Skyhawks claimed the set at 25-18 to even the match score at 1-1.

The Mountain Lions scored seven straight points in the third set and won the set 25-13. It matched the largest margin of win in a set for UCCS this season. The Mountain Lions allowed Fort Lewis to record back-to-back points only three times in the fourth set for a 25-17 win and the 3-1 match victory.

Catlett's 24 kills marked her seventh match with 20-or-more kills this season. She leads the RMAC with 4.75 kills per set and added 14 digs on defense. Hamilton hit a season-high .458 with 13 kills, two errors and 24 attacks, and made three blocks along with Celeste Henderson. Natasha Habert led both teams with 17 digs and Morgan Evans made 52 assists.

UCCS will continue its roadtrip through southwest Colorado with a 3 p.m., match on Saturday against Adams State. The Grizzlies (2-9, 1-2 RMAC) fell in three sets to MSU Denver earlier tonight.
