#20 Mountain Lions Drop 1-0 Game to Western State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 20 University of Colorado Colorado Springs out-shot Western State Colorado University by an 18-10 margin, but the Mountaineers (4-2-1, 2-1 RMAC) scored the lone goal of the night in the ninth minute as the Mountain Lions (4-2-1, 1-1-1 RMAC) fell 1-0 tonight at Mountain Lion Stadium. Brooke Tominello led both teams with six shots.

UCCS took a pair of early shots in the first eight minutes of the game before Western State countered with two shots in a 24-second span, including the goal 8 minutes, 36 seconds into the game. The Mountain Lions doubled the Mountaineers' shot count in the first half at 8-4 but trailed by the 1-0 margin at halftime.

The Mountain Lions took three shots on goal in the second half, with two in the final 13 minutes of action. UCCS made four of its 10 overall shots in the half during a six-minute span late in the game in an attempt to score, but Western State held for the 1-0 decision.

Tominello moved into eighth in UCCS career records for shots and improved her total to 83. She is 14 shots away from seventh-place Julia Saenz. Michaela Mansfield became the sixth Mountain Lion in program history with 100 shots as she moved alone into sixth.

Brandi Arsenault made four saves on defense.

UCCS will be on the road for the first time this season on Friday in a 7 p.m., game at New Mexico Highlands. The Cowgirls (2-3-1, 1-0-1 RMAC) are tied with the Mountain Lions in the conference standings with four points this season.
