Mountain Lions Drop Semifinal Contest with Colorado Christian

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team struggled on the boards and came up short in a 66-51 game to Colorado Christian University in the semifinal round of the 2015 RMAC Shootout. The Mountain Lions (24-6) will learn their NCAA postseason future late Sunday night after beginning the conference tournament as the third-ranked team in the South Central Region.

UCCS took an early 8-2 to lead in the first three-and-a-half minutes off of scoring from three different Mountain Lions. The Cougars regained the lead with 8:24 and opened a 19-15 lead as part of an 8-2 run before UCCS responded with six straight points to take the lead back at 21-19. The Mountain Lions led Colorado Christian at halftime 30-28 with 50 percent shooting from the field.

UCCS built a 35-28 lead in the first two minutes of the second half and continued to lead until a 9-2 run by Colorado Christian put it back ahead at 45-42 with 12:31 remaining. Gabby Ramirez put the Mountain Lions back ahead 49-48 with a fastbreak jumper with just less than 10 minutes to play, but Colorado Christian closed out the game with an 18-2 run to claim the 66-51 decision in Brownson Arena.

Hernandez moved into fourth in UCCS scoring records and has 492 points this season. She also moved to within six rebounds of matching the program season record as her total increased to 257. Shannon Kelly and Abby Kirchoff both added nine points. Colorado Christian held a 12-rebound advantage against UCCS.

The NCAA will release the field of 64 teams for the 2015 Division II Women's Basketball Tournament at 8 p.m., MDT. A live broadcast will be available at NCAA.com.
