UCCS Breaks Single-Season Win Record on Senior Night

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior guard Abby Kirchoff led UCCS with 14 points in her final regular season home game to lead the Mountain Lions (21-5 / 16-4 RMAC) to a 57-54 win against Black Hills State (14-11 / 12-11 RMAC) tonight in the Gallogly Events Center. The win marked the most in a single season in UCCS history, surpassing the 20 victories from the 2001-02 season.

Kirchoff moved up to 533 points this season and needs nine points to move into second in all-time season records. She needs 31 more points to match her own program record of 564 points from the 2013-14 season.

The Mountain Lions turned a four-point deficit into a five-point lead with eight minutes left in the first half. UCCS held for the remainder of the half and led Black Hills State 23-19 at the break.

The Yellow Jackets used back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 38-38 with 9:43 to play in the game, but the Mountain Lions held Black Hills State to no field goals during the next four minutes and took a five-point lead in the process. The Mountain Lions made five of their final six free three throws in the final minute to secure the season sweep against the Yellow Jackets.

Kirchoff went eight-of-10 at the free throw line and remained third in the RMAC in free throw percentage. Brittany Hernandez added 13 points and led the Mountain Lion defense with six rebounds and three blocked shots. She is seventh in UCCS records with 229 rebounds and ninth with 445 points this season.

The five Mountain Lion seniors - Kirchoff, Jessika Kienitz, Sam Patterson, McKenna Haist and Kellie Krueger - will have one more home game for the RMAC Tournament Quarterfinals on March 3. The game time will be announced on Feb. 28 after the conclusion of the regular season.

UCCS will be on the road to finish the regular season at Regis on Friday and at MSU Denver on Saturday.
