UCCS Wins 86-80 Against Chadron State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior guard Derrick White led both teams with 26 points and the No. 20 Mountain Lions (21-4 / 15-4 RMAC) shot 83 percent from the free throw line in an 86-80 victory against Chadron State (7-17 / 6-14 RMAC). The win ties for the most in a season in program history.

The Eagles took an early six-point lead at 10-4 in the first two-and-a-half minutes of the game, and didn't trail until the Mountain Lions put together an 11-point run for a 21-13 lead with 12 minutes left in the half. Chadron State regained a two-possession lead at 34-30 with 5:29 to play in the period before UCCS assembled an 11-4 run to take a 41-38 halftime lead.

The Mountain Lions started the second half with a 9-2 rally to build a 10-point lead, and expanded it to 14 points at 56-42 with 15:22 to play. The Eagles narrowed the UCCS advantage down to three points at 67-64 with just under seven minutes left in the game, and the Mountain Lions retook an 11-point lead two minutes later. UCCS made its last 11 free throws in the final 95 seconds to hold off the Eagles and earn the sixth straight win in the series.

White finished with his 15th 25-point game of the season and added a team-high seven rebounds on defense. Alex Welsh and Darius Pardner both scored 16 points, and Pardner increased his career scoring total to 983 points.

Chadron State shot 53 percent from the three-point line (nine-of-17), the second-best shooting for a Mountain Lion opponent behind Colorado Mesa's performance on Jan. 10. UCCS shot better than 80 percent at the free throw line for the seventh time this season.

The Mountain Lions will play the final regular season home game on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., against Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets (9-18 / 7-13 RMAC) lost to Colorado State-Pueblo 78-67 earlier tonight.
